Environment - Protecting The Environment For The Future

Introduction
With the ever increasingly stringent legislations coming in to force, organisations of all kinds are progressively determined to adopt and demonstrate sound environmental performance by controlling the impact on the environment from their activities, products and services. They do so in the context of growing environmental awareness, other factors promoting environmental protection and best practice.

CNIM ECS operates and maintains the highest standards of excellence and takes environmental considerations into account in all its work activities.

Although ultimate responsibility for the implementation of the policy rests with Management, every employee has a duty to assist and comply with the company's aim to minimise and control any adverse effects upon the environment, themselves and of others that may be affected from their activities. With this in my mind, CNIM ECS promotes the best use of environmental practices and resource programmes for the operation of its environmental policy.

Scope
This statement applies to all aspects of the Company's activities including all buildings, goods and services used and provided by the Company and everyone employed within. It also covers the immediate impact s of our work activities and policies and those of our suppliers with the exception of those we are unable to control or influence.

Environmental Commitments
In support of this vision, we have set a number of key objectives which will be delivered directly by CNIM ECS and by working closely with partners. Our main priorities are to:

  • Encourage staff involvement in environmental issues through comprehensive training and the provision of information.
  • Promote energy conservation by efficient use, careful planning and design with due regard to improved energy utilisation and appropriate investment in energy efficiency measures.
  • Minimise waste and ensure that there is effective control, which promotes recycling where possible and provides for responsible disposal particularly with regard to hazardous wastes.
  • Strive to eliminate the release of pollutants by way of adequate and suitable controls and assessments and via continuous evaluations and appropriateness of and the need for any activity which could have an impact on the environment.
  • Phase out, where practicable, ozone depleting substances, greenhouse gases, volatile organic compounds, vehicle emissions and other substances which have a detrimental effect to health and the environment.
  • Adopt an environmentally sound transport strategy.
  • Ensure where practicable, that buildings occupied by us are designed, constructed and operated to optimise
    their environmental performance.
  • Promote environmentally responsible policies in all our commercial activities, including purchasing and investment.
  • Encourage manufacturers, suppliers and contractors to adopt similar standards and ethics to maintain sound
    environmental practices.
  • Take in to account the likely environmental effects of our activities and developments on the local area and communities.
  • Monitor and improve the environmental performance of our processes, through research and development of new technologies.

To ensure that this Policy is effective, we will review it annually and wherever there are significant changes to our business. Any such changes will be communicated effectively to all personnel via the channels and procedures set in place for communication and consultation at all levels.
